NOW RECRUITING PILOT PARTNERS
Ancast Nowcasting™
Would AI have made better decisions than what actually aired?
Nowcasting is a confidential pilot study for broadcasters and FAST operators. Using your historical schedules and viewing data, it shows how AI would have selected and sequenced promos and short-form content, and quantifies the retention you missed.
No live systems. No workflow disruption. No operational risk.
WHAT IT IS
Evidence before change
Nowcasting analyses historical broadcast schedules and viewer behaviour. Rather than changing live systems, it evaluates what happened, models what could have happened, and quantifies the missed opportunity in retention, engagement and downstream value.
“This is not personalisation. This is contextual optimisation at break level, informed by real viewing behaviour.”
WHY IT MATTERS NOW
Small editorial decisions, disproportionate impact
—
Viewer drop-off during breaks remains high.
—
Promo effectiveness varies widely by placement and sequence.
—
Existing measurement tools are too coarse for break-level insight.
—
Optimisation is often led by intuition rather than evidence.
THE PILOT
A desktop data-science exercise, not an integration
Using historical schedules, viewership data and content metadata, the pilot models:
—
How audiences actually behaved during breaks, and where they tuned out.
—
Which promos and short-form assets performed best in context.
—
What an AI-driven sequencing decision would have looked like.
—
The predicted uplift if different decisions had been made.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
An executive-ready insight pack
01
Break-by-break counterfactuals
What aired versus what AI would have recommended, why, and the retention and engagement impact per break.
02
Promo effectiveness intelligence
Which promos resonate with which audiences, sequencing patterns that reduce drop-off, and high-risk break moments.
03
Uplift and value estimation
Predicted improvement in break retention, downstream impact on tune-in and audience flow, framed for decision-makers.
04
A visual A/B illustration
The original break composition side by side with the AI-optimised alternative, built to support internal buy-in.
WHY PROMOS FIRST
Start where the data is richest
Promos and other short-form assets are high-frequency, editorially flexible, easier to optimise than full schedules, and directly linked to retention and downstream viewing. That lets a pilot prove value before expanding into deeper scheduling or real-time optimisation.
HOW IT’S DIFFERENT
Strategic intelligence, not software
Nowcasting is
An evidence layer. A decision-support capability. A way to quantify opportunity before committing to change.
Nowcasting is not
A scheduling system. A real-time optimisation engine. A replacement for editorial judgement.
CONFIDENTIAL BY DESIGN
Why there’s an NDA
The NDA is there so we can share methodology and talk freely about your data with organisations serious about a pilot.
—
No proprietary broadcaster data is exposed publicly.
—
No methodologies are disclosed without mutual agreement.
—
Pilot scope and data usage are agreed upfront.
WHO IT’S FOR
Built for promo-heavy schedules
—
FAST channel operators.
—
Broadcasters with promo-heavy schedules.
—
Digital and streaming teams exploring optimisation.
—
Strategy, data and commercial leadership.
—
Organisations considering AI, but wanting evidence first.
WHERE IT COMES FROM
Rooted in broadcast data science
Nowcasting grew out of Ben Anchor’s UC Berkeley data-science work and an earlier AI scheduling prototype, applied to the break-level decisions broadcasters make every day.
FAQ
Straight answers
What does nowcasting mean in broadcasting?
Here it means using historical schedules, viewing data and content metadata to model what audiences did during breaks, and what a better, AI-selected sequence would have achieved. It evaluates past decisions rather than changing live output.
Does the pilot connect to our systems?
No. It’s a desktop, non-integrated data-science exercise using historical data you share. There’s no live integration and no operational risk.
What data do you need?
Historical schedules, viewership data and content metadata. Scope and data usage are agreed upfront, under NDA.
What do we get at the end?
An executive-ready insight pack: break-by-break counterfactual analysis, promo effectiveness intelligence, uplift and value estimates, and a visual A/B illustration.
How do we get involved?
Request an NDA or book a strategy call. We start with a confidential briefing on your pain points, the data involved, what a pilot could deliver and whether it makes sense for you. No obligation and no technical commitment.
Interested in a pilot?
A confidential briefing costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Start with insight, scale with confidence.
